This is the Referral Terms you are asked to accept before we introduce you to a law firm through Match. This is not legal advice. It is the agreement between you and us about how an introduction works, what we do, and what we don't.

The same text is shown on the Match consent screen before you send an enquiry. You can read it here at any time, whether or not you use Match.

Key points

  1. We are not a law firm. We do not give legal advice, and nothing on this site is advice about your own case.
  2. We only introduce you to the one firm you choose. The firm decides whether to take you on.
  3. Any legal advice, and any contract for legal work, is between you and that firm. The firm is responsible for its own work, and it is regulated and insured for it.
  4. We do not guarantee the firm, its fees or the outcome of your case, and we are not responsible for what the firm does or fails to do.
  5. The introduction is free for you. The firm may pay us for introductions.
  6. If you are unhappy with the firm, complain to the firm first, then to the Legal Ombudsman.

1. About these terms

These terms apply when you use the Match service on settledivorce.co.uk to be introduced to a law firm. They sit alongside our Privacy notice, which explains what we do with your details.

Settle Divorce is run by Metro Farms Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16907105), registered office 128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX. In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Metro Farms Ltd, and "the firm" means the law firm you choose to be introduced to.

Please read these terms before you press Send. You must tick the box to confirm you accept them before any introduction is made. If you do not agree to them, do not use Match. You can still use the rest of the site.

2. What we do, and what we do not do

2.1 Settle Divorce publishes general information about divorce and separation in England and Wales, and offers a free service that introduces you to a law firm you choose.

2.2 We are not a law firm. We are not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). We do not give legal advice, we do not carry out any reserved legal activity, and using our site or our Match service does not create a solicitor-client relationship between you and us.

2.3 Our guides, tools, eligibility checker and match results are general information only. The reasons we show for a firm ("Why these") are based on your answers and on information the firm has published. They are not a recommendation that a firm is right for your case, and they are not advice.

2.4 Do not rely on anything on our site as advice about your own circumstances. For that, speak to a qualified, regulated legal adviser.

3. How an introduction works

3.1 You choose one firm and press Match. Before anything is sent, we show you exactly what the firm will receive.

3.2 When you tick to send and press Send, we pass that enquiry to that one firm, and to nobody else.

3.3 The firm decides whether to contact you and whether to act for you. We cannot make a firm reply or take on your case, and we do not guarantee that it will.

3.4 You are under no obligation to instruct the firm.

3.5 If you opt in, we will send you one follow-up email about a week later to ask how it went. That is the only follow-up email we will send.

4. Your relationship with the firm

4.1 If you decide to instruct the firm, that is a separate agreement between you and the firm, on the firm's own terms. We are not a party to it. The firm should send you its client care information and fees before it starts work.

4.2 The firm is an independent business. It is not our agent, partner or employee, and we do not supervise its work. The firm alone is responsible for its advice and services, its fees, its conduct, and its compliance with the SRA's Standards and Regulations and any other rules that apply to it.

4.3 Firms regulated by the SRA must hold professional indemnity insurance that meets the SRA's minimum terms. That insurance, not us, is what protects you if the firm's work falls short.

4.4 Check the firm's fees, terms and any cancellation rights before you agree to anything with it.

5. How we choose which firms to show

5.1 Before we list a firm, we check that it appears on the SRA's public register, and we check again at least once a month.

5.2 We do not audit, supervise or endorse any firm. Fees, reviews and other details we show come from information the firm or a review site has published, with the date we checked it. They may have changed since.

5.3 You can check any firm yourself on the SRA's register at sra.org.uk.

6. Money

6.1 Our service is free for you. We will never charge you for an introduction.

6.2 Firms may pay us for introductions or for being listed. What a firm pays us does not change the enquiry you send, and it never affects which firms we show you or the order we show them in.

6.3 Regulated firms have their own rules about telling clients about referral arrangements, and the firm may tell you about ours.

7. Our responsibility to you

7.1 We will provide the introduction service with reasonable care and skill. That means sending your enquiry, as you approved it, to the firm you chose.

7.2 We are not responsible for the advice, acts, omissions, negligence or regulatory breaches of any firm, or for any loss that results from them. Any claim about the firm's work is a matter between you and the firm, its insurers and its regulator.

7.3 We are not responsible for any loss caused by treating general information on our site as advice about your own circumstances.

7.4 We are not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when you used Match, or for any business losses.

7.5 Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.

8. Complaints

8.1 About the firm. Use the firm's own complaints procedure first. If the firm does not resolve it within eight weeks, or you are unhappy with its answer, you can usually take it to the Legal Ombudsman (legalombudsman.org.uk). If you think a solicitor has behaved dishonestly or broken the SRA's rules, you can report them to the SRA.

8.2 About us. Email [email protected]. We will reply within 14 days.

9. Your details

9.1 Our Privacy notice explains what we keep from an introduction, why, and for how long. We keep a record of the version of these terms you accepted and when you accepted it.

9.2 Every email we send you about a match includes a link to delete your details. You can also email us to ask.

10. What we ask of you

10.1 You must be 18 or over to use Match.

10.2 Give accurate information, and only send details about yourself. Do not include sensitive information about another person who has not agreed to it.

10.3 Match is for matters under the law of England and Wales.

11. General

11.1 We may update these terms. The version you accepted applies to the introduction you made under it.

11.2 If a court decides part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.

11.3 Only you and we have rights under these terms.

11.4 These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in the courts where you live.
