In short
Settle Divorce is a publisher. We write plain-English guides about the money side of divorce in England and Wales, and we build free tools that help you work out where you stand before you pay anyone.
We are not solicitors and we do not give legal advice. We are not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, and we cannot act for you. What we can do is make sure you understand your options well enough to have a short, cheap conversation with a solicitor instead of a long, expensive one.
Why this site exists
Divorce is one of the few things where the difference between an informed decision and an uninformed one is measured in tens of thousands of pounds, and where almost nobody has done it before. The advice that exists is either free and vague, or specific and priced at several hundred pounds an hour.
The gap in the middle is what we are trying to fill. Not by pretending you never need a solicitor, but by making the hours you do buy count for more.
Who runs it
Editorial is run by the Settle Divorce editorial team. Anything on this site that describes how the law works is checked by a qualified family solicitor before we mark it as published. Guides still carrying a Draft label have not been through that check yet, and we label them so you know the difference.
Our review panel
Every order is checked by an independent family solicitor from our review panel, in practice in England and Wales.
Our review panel are independent family solicitors. They are not employed by Settle Divorce, and Settle Divorce is not a firm of solicitors.
Settle Divorce is a publisher. It is not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. If you need advice on your own case, rather than general information, you still need a solicitor of your own.

- Build free tools that help you organise your own position
- Tell you plainly when paying a solicitor is worth it
What we do not
- Give advice on your individual circumstances
- Act for you, draft documents for you, or represent you
- Guarantee an outcome, or predict what a particular judge will do
- Sell your details to a panel of firms
How we make money
Two commitments, whatever the model turns out to be. First, a commercial relationship never changes what a guide says: if the cheap route is the right route, the guide says so. Second, we never sell your personal details. See the privacy policy for what we do with data.
Getting it wrong
We will get things wrong sometimes, and the law changes. If you spot an error, tell us and we will fix it and say what changed. Every guide carries the date it was last reviewed, so you can see how fresh it is.
